Earnings Report: April 2025

Image created in Midjourney.

Medium has been my one bright spot in the past few months, and this month was no exception.

I use ChatGPT to help me organize my thoughts, and it’s been telling me to focus on what’s working – Medium. And that’s what I plan on doing in May.

But before I get ahead of myself, let me show you everything that happened in April…

These are my current sources of income:

  • Medium
  • Amazon books
  • digital products
  • affiliate marketing promotions

Let me remind you what happened in March.

Quickie March stats

You can read March’s full report here.

  • Writing through Medium: 5,505 followers and $694.39
  • Affiliate sales: $56.18
  • Amazon KDP: $17.28
  • Digital products: $44.70

I made a total of: $795.27

April 2025 Results

First, I’ll show you what happened on Medium this month.

Reads & Views

Here are the reads & views I had in March for comparison:

And here’s what April looked like:

You can see I had a nice boost in views and reads, which showed up quite nicely in my earnings! But I’ll show you that in a sec…

Followers

In March, I had 5,505 followers, and here’s what that looks like now:

I’m not gaining followers like crazy, even though my views have gone up significantly. I’m OK with it, though, because I probably have a lot of reads from people who aren’t as invested in the writing community on Medium.

They’re just your everyday casual reader.

And I think this is a good thing because the readers who don’t read a zillion things per day on Medium have more earning distribution potential.

It’s hard to explain, but all the members pay $5/month (or $15/month for a Friend of Medium membership). Some of that goes to Medium, and the rest goes to the writers. If someone reads a ton of articles every day, their membership money is spread among all those writers.

If someone is only reading one or two articles per day, then their money isn’t spread as far, and the writer will earn more. At least, that’s how I understand it.

It’s nothing to worry about either way.

If you write on Medium, just keep writing and don’t worry too much about all the potential factors. It’ll make you go bonkers!

Earnings

April was by far the best I’ve ever done on Medium. I finally hit my goal of making $1000 in a month. That’s an intention I set in July of 2023. Do you know how much I made that month?

A whopping $1.12.

So I had zero reason to believe I would accomplish it.

But that’s how intentions work. You state it, send it out there into the ether, and then see what happens and how it unfolds…

And now that I know I can make $1,000 in a month, I can only assume that I can make $2,000 in a month.

It’ll be fun to see how long it takes!

Here are my April top earners:

You can see that quite a few of them were written before April.

That’s the power of articles compounding over time.

Total Medium Earnings = $1,422.74

Everything else…

I usually break everything else up into:

  • Affiliate & Benable sales
  • Amazon KDP
  • Gumroad
  • Substack

But Substack always yells at me that my post is too long, and since there isn’t much exciting going on with these other earnings avenues, I’ll just give you the quick and dirty version of these stats.

Affiliate & Benable = $26.93 (only affiliate sales, nothing new on Benable)

Amazon KDP = $8.74

Gumroad = $53.34 (for activity March 15 – April 18)

Substack:

  • Hustling Housewife subs in March = 757
  • Hustling Housewife subs in April = 852
  • Intellectualists subs in March = 639
  • Intellectualists subs in April = 643

Total Earnings

Here are all my earnings since 2024:

  • January 2024 = $1,008.10
  • February 2024 = $1.045.69
  • March 2024 = $664.55
  • April 2024 = $1,111.32
  • May 2024 = $713.60
  • June 2024 = $1,095.47
  • July 2024 = $953.89
  • August 2024 = $938.42
  • September 2024 = $492.98
  • October 2024 = $508.28
  • November 2024 = $491.12
  • December 2024 = $215.38
  • January 2025 = $1,449.67
  • February 2025 = $680.08
  • March 2025 = $795.27
  • April 2025 = $1,503.01

That’s my best month so far, but only because of Medium. Which makes me consider some things…

The Focus for May

I’ve been working with ChatGPT to brainstorm some ideas. Here’s what I’m thinking I’ll experiment with this month:

1. Substack

To be honest, I don’t feel like I’m getting anywhere on Substack, and I don’t really vibe with it the same way other people do.

So I keep considering removing it from my process, yet it’s hard to make that decision because I see how beneficial it is to so many others.

I keep having opposing thoughts:

  • I’m holding onto Substack because of the sunk cost fallacy.
  • I change my mind too much and need to be more patient.

ChatGPT is helping me sort through these thoughts.

I may make some changes in the future, but I’ll let you know…

2. Medium

Since Medium is doing well for me, I want to use most of my time here. Maybe I can get it to $2k this month if I really work at it. (Maybe??)

3. Mini digital products

ChatGPT is helping me brainstorm some mini digital products. What I’d like to try is to have at least one for each Medium article topic.

If I write about personal finance, I’ll have a mini product around personal finance to promote in those articles. Same if the topic is health. Or manifesting…whatever.

Final thoughts

April turned out to be a pretty good month, yet I still feel “behind”. It was nice to reach my goal of $1k in a month on Medium, but it’s still so far off from where I want to be.

I honestly don’t know if I can progress too much further. I like writing, creating products, and marketing, but I’m not a big fan of videos, coaching, or building a community.

I’m sure that holds me back, but I think I have to be OK with it and just do the best I can with what I’ve got.
