I hit all kinds of milestones with Medium in August, and I’ll share everything with you below.
Things were going so well in August that I decided to do a mid-month check-in, and now I’m back to tell you how the rest of the month went.
But first, let’s do a little recap from July…
Quickie July stats
I combined March, April, and May’s earnings reports, which you can read here. But these stats are just for July to keep things simple.

I hit:
- 7k followers
- 1k email subscribers
And I also hit two other milestones:
- the biggest follower increase in a month (686)
- the biggest email subscriber increase in a month (518)

Earnings:
My next milestone involves my earnings. The most amount I made before this month was in May with $1,531.59:
I was very happy about that amount! But August was even better.
I hit another milestone by getting a $2,000 month on Medium!
Here’s what my earnings have been since December. You see they go up and down quite a bit. That’s how it goes on that platform.
In this article, I wondered how long it would take me to get to the $2,000 mark once I reached $1,000. It took me four months, which is pretty fast! It took fooorrreeever to get to the $1,000 mark.
So now I have to wonder…
How long will it take to get to $3,000 in a month on Medium? Let’s find out…!

My highest day in August was $119.85, and my lowest day was $34.43.
Now let me show you why my earnings were so high. It was mostly due to one main thing, but there were a couple of other interesting things that happened…

These are the top 13 money makers from August, but you can see only two of them were written in August. That’s why Medium can be very powerful. Articles you wrote a while ago can still do well months later. And then everything starts to compound…
The top article, The 15 Biggest Wastes of Money (According to ChatGPT), has been carrying me for months! It had a huge resurgence this month for some reason and earned another $1,200! It’s close to becoming my first $3,000 article.
You can see how the reads got a big boost and started to taper off at the end of the month:

Medium is always a bit of a mystery…
Besides that one taking off, the next three articles did exceptionally well. I’m surprised Do You Waste Your Money On These Top 11 Useless Things? made over $100 even though it was written back in March.
That one’s done very well for me over time:
I’m most surprised about Not Reading This 1 Book Should Be a Crime (Especially If You Like Money). I never expected a book review to do as well as this.
And…

Even though I haven’t done much on Benable, I earned a whopping $2.70 in cash back. I’m up to $56.12, but you need $80 to cash out. I’ve almost given up on this ever happening…

Gumroad = $137.03 (for activity July 19 – August 20, which includes any affiliate sales and takes out affiliate fees and platform fees.)

As I mentioned above, the book review article I wrote did very well on Medium, but it also helped boost my Amazon affiliate sales. I normally get a $10 or $11 gift card now and again, but this is what earnings looked like in August:
I’m not going to retire on that, but it’s the most I’ve ever earned in a month (so far) with Amazon.

Since this hasn’t been paid out yet, it’s not included in my earnings for August. Amazon is about 2 months behind with payments.

Future Plans
First, I rejoined Kit, and my Intellectualists newsletter is back! Except…I made it more actionable and valuable. Every Thursday, I send a list of 5 curated links + 1 quick challenege to help you grow your side hustle. This Medium article tells you what each of the curated links are and why I restarted my newsletter (again).
I am going to focus on growing Intellctualists to help make it a steady source of income eventually. While I love the success I’m having on Medium, I don’t like relying on one website (that’s not even my own!) to provide most of my earnings. So many things can go wrong with that.
That’s why I started this website and restarted the newsletter. I want to put some control back into my hands…just in case.
I also plan to make my Medium Mistakes ebook into a lead magnet for my email list. That will be done before the next update.
I have the desire to create more digital products, but I haven’t thought of anything worthwhile to put out yet. To be determined…
All in all, I’m happy with how August went, and I’m so curious to see what happens in September. I’ll certainly let you know!
